Hello! Bournemouth.

January 13, 2016

It's my first week back after Christmas and since people back home often ask me what's Bournemouth like and what is the University like, I thought I'll write about that. I don't really know how I ended up here, I always knew I was going to go abroad because it was just a dream of mine and I thought that for a young person without any responsibilities it's easy enough to go anywhere in the world. I also knew I wanted to do Arts since my mum always told me that you should do what you really enjoy. I wanted to go to Italy, because I always felt like my heart really belonged there, but I chose England because of my language abilities, as I much as I wanted to go somewhere warm, I don't speak the language, so that would've been very complicated for me. I looked into so many Universities and I think I chose Arts University Bournemouth because of it's Foundation course in Art&Design. I didn't really know what kind of Arts I wanted to do, so I was very confused looking into different subjects and not finding anything I was drawn to. So I thought I could just do this Foundation course, it lasts for one year and you get to go through all of the subjects such as Fashion and Textiles, Film, Photography, Fine Arts and 3D, which was the one I chose to specialise in. I was sure that after this one year I had a clearer idea about what I wanted to do with my life. I remember having a workshop on Make-Up, we did casual effects with wax and blood and I knew that minute, this was for me. So I applied for the Make-Up course and started next year. I am on my second year now, and I seriously love it.

Jõulud on läbi ja uus aasta käes ja mina olen tagasi koolis. Inimesed tihti küsivad mult milline siin on ja kuidas mulle koolis meeldib. Mõtlesin, et kirjutan natukene sellest. Ma ausalt ei teagi miks ma just siia sattusin.

Bournemouth is a lovely town in South England, its population is around 180 000 people and half of those are students because Bournemouth has two big universities, so the town has a lot of pubs, clubs and little cute cafes. I also chose Bournemouth out of all the places because of its beautiful beach. I have lived near the beach all of my life and couldn't imagine that ever changing. I do feel that it's just a stop for me because as soon as I'm finished with University I will move as far as possible from here. There's just something that is not right for me here, it never felt like home. Unlike most of old English cities, this one doesn't have remarkable architecture or anything enchanting about it at all.  I constantly feel like I'm trapped here, there's constant party and restless atmosphere here, which was completely fine and even thrilling for the first year, when everything was so new and interesting. Now it's just tiring and only thing I enjoy about it is going to University really. Apparently it's a great place to come to in summer, but I never did that because every summer I have spent back home in Estonia.

I do like my University a lot. It has a great structure inbetween courses, for example me as a make-up student, can easily create a project in collaboration with photography, fashion or costume students. It's incredible because you have so many opportunities to make your ideas come true. There is a studio for everything, I could go to the workshop and make anything from metal, wood, plaster etc. There's multiple photo studios, which is great for whenever you need to photograph your projects. The library has every single book you could dream of. There is a vast selection of societies and events. I love it and it keeps on getting better and better. They are building and developing the University all the time. For example just now after our Christmas break we got a completely new complex of make-up studios. Exiting...

Bournemouth on selline armas linn Lõuna-Inglismaal, populatsiooniga umbes 180 000 inimest.

Lisasin siia video, mis annab hea ülevaate kõigest, millest just kirjutasin!
