Painting without a name?

January 6, 2016

Right... Here's a painting I did some time ago. It was the first time ever I filmed myself painting. Finding these clips in my computer, I thought I'll try to make them into a video. I do think it's a brilliant way to show your work, but very challenging, my camera stopped working million times for no reason and constantly ran out of battery. That's why the video actually has no end.

I decided to put it on here anyways, because it's the first time I was happy with a painting I did. Most of the art I've done, has ended up on the top shelf of my wardrobe, because I tend to be overly critical about anything I do, and not feel confident at all to share it with people.

This piece actually was inspired by a photo from Vogue Korea (October, 2012). I just thought the photo was so mysterious and I kept going back to it. Whenever I paint or draw, I start from an idea or image or anything, which later becomes something completely different. I don't really think much about what I put on the canvas, it's just colors coming together in strange ways. In the process of actually painting, I keep changing everything and coming up with new things to do with it.

I never really name my paintings, because I don't think there's a need for it. It simply is what it is. Everyone sees it in a different way, whether they like it or not, there's a reason for it. A named painting just tells you what to look for or makes you overthink everything, which is completely fine if that's what you want the painting to say. For me it's just expression or making something beautiful. Painting for me has always been just different faces, I think that's one of the reasons why I ended up in make-up industry, there's just something so fascinating about a human face. A facial expression tells more than any landscape or flower in a pot.

PS! Make sure you turn the video on HD.

Just see on põhjus, miks see video on veidi laialivalguv ning ilma mingi lõputa.

PS! Kindlasti vahetage videot vaadates kvaliteet HD peale!
